Today I installed this case: http://www.clearxbox.com/site/pages/prods/ps2_blackft.html (ordered as a combo with SwapMagic 3.6)

If I close the lid, the game starts to skip. If I play it with the lid open, it makes some scary noises, but gameplay is not affected at all.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Does anyone have a possible solution so that I can play with the lid closed? I'm mostly worried about dust and such getting in while I play.

1.could be the white cog thing on the lid that is not spinning right
2.could be that the screws are too tight in the case
those would be my top two choices.

Check the ribbon or something near the magnet if you decide to open it and make sure it isn't being held down by the flip-top case; and also, try loosing the bolts and see how that goes

I backed the screws off about 1/4 of the way, and it got better...But it's still too bad to leave the case closed when playing. I think I'll bring some small washers home from work tomorrow to space it out better.

Same thing happened to me. I believe the fix is to loosen the screw holding the lens onto the rod just a smidge (less than a 1/4 turn). I know that sounds absurd, but, I think that's it. (I also had to fix a stuttering problem by heating the arm that connects to the worm gear and bending it slightly.)

Hope it helps.

holy crap man^^^^^
are your serious? I would not do any of the things you just mentioned. The disc reading fine with the previous top, and not with the fliptop should have no bearing on the laser at all. So messing with that is a last resort.

another soloution has been people did not have enough weight to the lid so it did not press down fully, so they stuck a paperback book on it and it worked.

Another guy realized a spring at the back of the fliptop was not working right and had to fix that.

Also make sure you are using GOOD QUALITY DVD'S
this can greatly effect how your games play or if they play at all.
