connecting to dial up internet via w810i

i know its possible to connect to the internet via dial up using the w810i and the data cable provided. the problem im havin is that after i use the SE wizard and input my details (user, password, phone number) and click on connect, the screen acts like its dialing a number then it goes back to standby mode. i then get an error message "(678) the remote computer did not respond". am i doing anything wrong?
