Games freezing when loaded with HDLoader

I have recently installed a 200GB hard drive in my PS2. I have been reading the forums and have been able to get the drive installed, all of my games coppied over and the HDLoader 0.8b elf installed and everything seems to work fine, except when I try to load a game. A couple of games will load but most will start to load then either freeze or go to black screen. I have reviewed the compatibility chart and several indicate that they should run fine as is or in Mode 3 which I have selected. Any thoughts anyone? I haven't played with UDMA/MDMA modes yet because I am not sure which to try.

I have tried several including ATV Offroad Fury 3 in mode 3. Cars. Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2 and Brother in Arms. Games that did work were Bionicle and ATV Offroad Fury 2.
