Realigning laser with a v7

Ok, here's the deal. I have a v7 oldschool PS2. It clicks when I try to play PS1 games.

So after reading all of those guides about realigning the laser or whatever, I opened mine up to try that. But one problem.. the little white disc isn't there. believe me, I'm not just "not seeing it", it isn't there. I'm assuming all v7's are missing them.

How would I go around fixing my PS1 problem without the little white gear thing? Thank you.
