I am going to buy a XBOX360 Elite this saturday but i have been told by the guy tht is going to mod my xbox360 for $90.00 that it can be done and thts there is no risk of buyin the wrong drive or something because he said they havent made a Philip Drive in ages. But ive been readin in the forums here and it says its pretty much a 50-50 chance. What is going on?? and would it be savier to buy the normal white PRO XBOX360?

This guy sounds like he doesn't know was he's talking about and charging you WAY too much if he's just flashing the drive. 3 drives have appeared in Elites, the Hitachi 0078fk and 0079fk along with the Benq drive. I think 0079fk can be flashed with a programmer and a work station, but very few people are capable and have the equipment to do that. Only the 0078 fk is easily flashable.

It seems your only chance to get a flashable elite is to get one with lot number of 0709 or 0710. These are the first runs and the longer you've waited the less chance there is of finding one.

Also, $90 is quite expensive...

i am thinking of buying an xbox 360 and am wondering whether
to buy a pre-modded one from hong kong or not.
would a pre-modded one play games from all regions?

If i were you, i would not bother, as i am not sure but i do not believe you can play english or PAL format games, on the console ?

If you are in the US you can get a premodded console at Teammodders.com

and no, it is not like a modded regular Xbox. It is NOT region free and will only play games in the region of the console. The only games that play on multiple consoles are games that were made to do that. There are a few multi-region and region free games out there.
