hey, i just got a new spindle of verbatim DVD-R 16x dvds (MCC 03RG20), i had the exact same discs before and every game i burned on them worked like a charm. but these new discs just wont get read, it just says reading disc and then goes to disc read error, the weird part is the old set work perfectly fine while these dont. i usually burn at 4x on imgburn and my dvd drive is up to date

The difference could be where you bought those disc from compared to last time, the location from which they were produced i.e. Taiwan, Japan, Singapore like if the known locations of quality are usually produced from Singapore yet you got one from Taiwan, or if the media ID is exactly the same as your previous batches of Verbatim disc, then it could be you bought your discs from a different company who uses the same media ID as the Verbatim disc you bought before. A prime example may be the TDK brand.

Like how there's a huge difference in quality between TDKs and Memorex DVD+R disc when they're both CMC MAG F01s yet the results are incredibly different? For example, my Memorex CMC MAG F01s AND M01s easily eclipse 10mil on my PI errors yet my TDK CMC MAG F01s actually get a decent 50k~1mil for PI errors? I know there's media degradation but the results are so profoundly different, I'm shocked. (have 2 LITE-ON burners to scan results with CD/DVD Speed and Kprobe)

In that case, it could just be a bad batch. Try contacting the place you bought it from and ask if you could get a replacement. It's not common to have a bad batch here and there. It's a rare occasion really. Good luck asking the place you bought those disc from.

EDIT: TO the quality of the burn, try using CD/DVD Speed. Afterdawn should have it or talk about it here somewhere.
