A friend brought over a few cd's for me to burn for him and a few cd-rws to burn them on to. I burn them and the pc recognizes them as an audio cd and winamp pops up playing, but in my stereo and discman it says "no disc". Both my stereo and discman play cd-rs just fine. I'm using Nero to burn, and these are 74 minute Maxell CD-RWs. I'm sure theres something I'm not doing right here, can anyone help me????

Make sure the stereo and the discman support CD-RW. If they don't it won't work on them. Try burning to CD-R instead.

Yes, CD-RWs aren't supported by all players. You can try reducing the write speed if that would help - my Rega Planet sometimes is able to pick up a CD-RW even though it doesn't support them. Write speed has an effect.

The old school is back. All hail the new http://BitBurners.com !

Well, I guess that about explains it. I assume the .cda files CAN be played by other computers though?

The thing is that it's not the format that is the problem but the CD Reader/Player has to be able to be able to support CD Multitrack (I can't remember the correct name for it) in order to be able to read CD-RW's.

CD-RW are too dark. CD Players barely see them.

It's not just the color. If CD-RW's were dark then CD Players won't see Black CDR's either but that's not the case. If you have a older CD-ROM like my Plextor 12Plex SCSI Caddy, it won't read CD-RWs at all since it doesn't support the CD MultiSession (Mode 1 + 2) standard which is required to read CD-RW's.

Black CDRs are silver-like in the infra-red. CDRWs are dark in the infrared.

Did you try to read mono-session CDRWs in your Plextor ?

CDRW's don't work on the Plextor period since no CDR drives supported reading CDRW's until atleast 1997. It's no different than the Sony SCSI CDROM that came out in 1995 wasn't able to read VideoCD's because of the 2532byte sectors. It's not just the color but even Plextor support said only the newer drives supporting MultiSession would be able to read CDRW's.
