my desktop speakers only work with some video clips,can anyone help as it is very f...... annoying.

Try this codec, ok
http://free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack_download.htm
This Mega-codec will give you a DivX codec and other Audio or Video codec for free.

Certain types of files, eg VLC or DivX, I find easiest to play trouble free in their own players - is it in Windows Media Player you're not getting sound? Try getting the free player for whatever format your clips are in, and set the player as the default for that file type

wel its mostly utube etc,,not sure about the codec,its unverified.
