Having troubles getting swap magic to read

Just to start off my ps2 is a version 4 and I have swap magic 3.6. It takes me about 10-15 minutes just to get it to read. I don't know exactly what to do. I heard of this cog adjustment solution but I don't know if its the right choice for me. My ps2 can read all originals. I only have troubles with swap magic and its brand new and doesnt have any scratches. Thank you all in advance.

you could try cleaning the ps2 laser lens. My v4 eventually stopped reading swap magic also, and I couldn't get it to work (tried cleaning lens and messing with cog). It would read all originals, but not swap magic. I ended up selling it (before it stopped reading originals also) and buying a v9.
