If you have a PAL PS2, and you're trying to get an NTSC copy of God of War 2 to work, try switching the video modes to see if the results change. If you're trying to play it, you're better off trying to rebuild it because I believe Swap Magic can't boot up any dual-layered/DVD9 games so you would have to rebuild it to a DVD5 -- shrink the file size to about the same size as the Swap Magic's TOC 4.34 gigabytes. Could you specify what PS2 you have exactly and what happens when you load GoW2. Does the screen go blank or what? And also, have you gotten any other DVD9 games to work i.e. Xenosaga, God of War, Rogue Galaxy. If not, it could be possible your PS2 may be old, and if it is so, it might be a fat PS2 v4~v7 or something that cannot read or has trouble reading any DVD-9 games to begin with. If your PS2 can't read DVD9 games, then you should consider rebuilding the game so you can play it.
i have a fat ps2 its v4 and it is kind of old. but im talking about the magicswap dvd disk my ps2 doent regonize it. it could play original game, but just the dvd disk tha came in the package of magicswap 3.8 wont read.so is it my ps2 problem or the laser is dirty? if it is then how should i clean it up. thx again
Try testing on another PS2 and see if it reads. If it doesn't, then it could most likely be a bad burn. Ask for a replacement if possible. It isn't unlikely for you to get a bad burn. I say it happens occasionally from time to time. I also have gotten a bad burn myself and asked the place I bought it from for replacement.
Anyway, if your PS2 can read original PS2 games fine, especially DVD-based PS2 games like God of War, Rogue Galaxy and Kingdom Hearts, then it further makes me believe it's a bad burn because I highly doubt your PS2 couldn't read it unless your PS2's laser isn't outputting a strong enough frequency (or whatever it's called) to read the disc compared to read your PS2 games. Try testing on another PS2 to get a better idea if it could be your PS2 or the SM disc itself.
Edit: However, considering you have a v4 PS2, I'm guessing you certainly have raked up a lot of mileage on that PS2's laser, and it could finally be overdue for a replacement perhaps sometime in the near future. But, first, try it on another PS2 and see how it goes before you even think about opening your PS2 and adjusting something.
thank you all, i did try it on my friends ps2 and it still didnt read the dvd i guess i got a bad burn disk. i'll have to replace one. thanx again!!!
there were lot of bad burn magicswap disk??
i have another question, using magicswap methou can damaging ps2 system?
No, using Swap Magic won't damage the system, but using bad media like Memorex, Princo, Fujifilm, TDKs and any other unknown brands will likely mess up your laser more than using some good Taiyo Yuden brand DVD-/+Rs. I strictly use TYs, but I also from time to time use Ritek Ridata, Maxell here and there, Sony frequently for data disc nowadays, and Verbatim seldom. And about bad burn Swap Magic discs, well, it's not so bad. It happens rarely but with the number of people that I've heard over the past month about not getting Swap Magic to work only to find out it was a bad burn, I consider the rate at which you get a bad burn SM disc would be from rarely to occasionally.
