Hi,

I am having this strange problem with my Plexwriter 4012A. It used to work perfectly for almost year, then it stopped working for data, even for small file (2 Mb). The weird thing is that I can still create Audio cds without any problem.

I had Windows 98, and had the problem described above. I thought it had something todo with one of the drivers, so I reformatted the drive, and put Windows XP. Surprise, still exactly the same problem. Audio works fine, but any data files (even small ones), give a write error. It already stops when writing the Table of Contents.

First I was using Nero, then I also tried only using XP to write to cd, and the RealOne Player that also burns avi-files on cd. All giving the same problem.

Anybody who can give me a clue here? Is this a hardware or a software problem? I just dont have another pc, where I can try the writer.

I thought if it is a software issue, I should have solved it, when moving from Win98 to XP. If it is a hardware issue, why can I still write Audio cds?

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks,
Edwin

Are you using the latest firmware for your Plexy drive as Plexy is great for continually updating firmware for their drives. You "might" have ASPI layer conflicts...
Test burn a "data" cd that contains no movie file formats and see if you encounter the same problem.
Just curious as to why you're not using Plex Tools Pro for your Plexy? Damn good program m8 I assure you!

WindowsXP is a quirky OS when it comes to built-in burning capability. Many people claim to be able to burn fine. Many others have problems. Microsoft released an update to the IMAPI (which, FYI stands for Image Mastering Applications Programming Interface); that update can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320174. Furthermore, Microsoft has adressed other burning issues with WindowsXP, see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324129
