Contact 360mods.com unless you want to end up with a $400 paperweight.
They'll do it for you for $40 and you are guaranteed not to wind up with a brick. Doing it yourself is a touchy process, and unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing, I don't reccomend attempting it.

I trust 360mods.com. They give you a tracking number, plus a guarantee that if they brick your drive, they'll replace it.
Plus, they test it before they send it back, so it's 100% guaranteed to work.

So I send them the 360 they will mod it and how much would it be with shipping? How long does it take for them to mod it and ship?

$40 to Mod it, $15 each way for shipping for the console or $10 for the dvd-drive only, for an all around total of $60-$70.
It usually takes 2-3 days for it to get there, then it takes them 1 day to mod it and test it, then 2-3 days for it to get back. You're looking at being sans-console for about a week, but it will be worth it in the long run.

if you send the dvd drive alone they can't test it!! unless they lie because it won't run on any 360 unless it is the one it belongs to.

That may be ... that's why I sent my whole console, and I got it back with no problems, and it works just as well as it did when I sent it.
I didn't say you HAD to send only the drive ...

were they able to keep your warranty in tact? Because the guy at Teammodders who did mine was. I have the security stick in perfect condition on a piece of wax paper in an envelope in case i ever need it. Plus my new and original firmware on a disc which they also gave me.

No, wasn't able to save the warranty (probably could have if I had asked them to, but I wasn't too worried about it to be honest) .... sticker is in the trash somewhere (lol).
Anyway, as for playing XBOX Live after flashing, I dont know, I don't play on Live ....

So it's safe to send them the 360? What's better 360Mods.com or Teammodders.com?

It's really up to you. TeamModders is $10 more than 360Mod, but if you want a copy of your original firmware and the chance to save your warranty, then it's not that much of a difference.
If you don't mind voiding your warranty and you want it done for a bit cheaper, then go with 360Mods.
Either way, you're going to wind up with the same end product, it's just a matter of your budget restraints.

Yo people are getting banned so dont mod your console unless your not going to play online and just want to play offline.
Microsoft Starts Banning 360s on LIVE - MS Confirms
>> With the amount of posts we see on our forums ... it's clear, Microsoft decided to start banning Xbox360 with modified firmwares today (both Hitachi-LG and Toshiba-Samsung drives).
While it's the same release date as Halo3 beta, it seems that people who didn't download Halo3 also get banned. They probably detect backup discs (and not the modified firmware) when you play 'em online (not confirmed yet).
Even people using the new firmwares with disc-jitter added get banned, so it looks like Microsoft found another way to detect it.
Just like on Xbox1 it looks like Microsoft bans the console unique ID (serial), not the LIVE user. Microsoft will not allow anyone to login on LIVE on a banned console.
Many people on the official xbox.com forums also claim they got banned but didn't have a flashed firmware ... we'll have to see how that story develops in the coming hours and days.
