Cooling Fan- Good Idea or Bad Idea?

I read the thread about the NYKO cooling fan, but I have heard mixed reviews of coolers in general.
Some people say they help a lot, and others say they can make things worse. Any input from you guys?

I have already gone through 2 360s in 1 year, and am on my 3rd. One got the heatsink problem even while I was running a laptop intercooler on it.

From what i have heard the coolers are not real great. Everyone i know, including myself, did an install of the Talismoon fan that you can get to replace the stock one. That and keeping your house cool (75 or below) really helps. Plus the ever so cool green glow comming out of the back of my 360 :)
