I burned a couple of ps2 games with Phillips DVD-R which I heard was bad, but each one I burned had slow loading times but they worked. None of them came out perfect so I was thinking maybe it was my dvd burner too since some people said that some of their burns worked. Can someone clarify for me if the DVD burner matters?

I have some old USB external Toshiba SDR5472C DVD burner

I'm planning to buy TY dvds but i want to know if the dvd burner matters I dont want to waste any of them if its the dvd burner :/

Thanks

could be the USB burner causing problems.
Could be that it has out of date firmare
could be that you burned the disc at a speed that just did not work well
could be that your PS2 just doesn't like the media you used.
Could be that the program you burned it with just doesn't work well.

so does that narrow it down...didn't think so. So process of elimination.
1. update the burners firmware if any is available
2. Try burning with IMGburn on an 8 or 16X DVD at 4X
3. Try using a different burner, like a friends (one that is internal)
4. lastly try a different type of media. (verbatim in small packs like a 3 pack) If your burner can booktype you may also want to try some DVD+R and booktype it to DVD-Rom (or even try it not booktyped)

I have used Philips with great success for PS2 back ups. Problem is that every PS2 laser is a little different and each one has media that just works better for it.
