Yer I was going to post the exact same question. I thought the problem was at my end for fiddling with my XP hosts file!

Strangely these sites going down are making me want to copy the whole website and store it on my computer, as a backup -except the gay crap. I only wish I had done that before fasttrackmovies went down!

Well, try www.ed2klinks.com as a alternative. It carries my blessing! :)

As far as I know, ShareReactor delivers something like 100,000,000 page impressions a month. AfterDawn is much, much smaller site and yet we need to have 5 servers to keep this site up and running smoothly (even though we still have hiccups every now and then, like yesterday when our forums were down for two hours).

Sharereactor collected over $8000 in donations to improve their servers. They have purchased and assembled the hardware, but it has not been implemented as of yet. Some testing is still being done to make sure it is working correctly. If you look at the top of their forum index, under the navigation, you will see that they have a link to a thread reporting the progress on implementing said hardware (hard to find, but it's there.) It has been very slow, but it will improve with the new hardware, and sharereactor will continue to be the only real site for ed2k links.

$8000 might sound a lot, but the monthly costs for running the site, i.e. the network connectivity (your mom/pop's old DSL doesn't really do it for larger websites :-), drain funds quite rapidly. But of course, if their only issue is with the hardware, then that should solve the problem easily.

I believe someone questioned the admins whether it was really a hardware issue, or could it actually be bandwith; they stated that the banner ads alone generate enough revenue to supply more than ample bandwith. We shall see if, and for how long, these hardware upgrades hold up, given the ever-increasing popularity of the ed2k network. At least they know that their users are more than happy to donate when need be.

Well if they made it a bit faster (which it was) then people might decide to use it more oftne and then the speed is all eaten up again lol, makes sense to me :-)

Yep i guess its all about cost i recently looked into hosting a small personal website and i also noticed the price for big bandwith sites and its very expensive so hats off to both afterdawn and sharereactor for the great job they do in providing a site atall:-)
