I have read many threads about avi to mpeg conversion and nearly all seem to recomend TMPGEnc. I have used this in the past and it has served me well! However i now use Main concept as it is so much faster and up to now i have had no problems with sinc.
It Encodes almost in real time and i then use Ulead Dvd movie factory to burn with no further encoding needed. I have the free fully working version that leaves a small watermark on top left of the video and is hardly noticable.
