I heard that there is something called FADE on PS2 games that make them unplayable after a while. I use DVD Decrypter to backup my games but I just did this yesterday and I don't want to wit to see the effects. Will this affect my games or does DVD Decrypter overcome that? If it does affect my games, is there a way to backup games and overcome that? I also have another question about media. I use I heard that you have to have a good brand of DVD media to play the games. I used memorex but the games is always stuttering and sometimes the character's voice plays and sometimes it doesn't and sometimes the game just jams.it is spiderman3 I have a modchip in my PS2 of course. I want to know if it is just a problem with the backup or if memorex DVD-R is not good media. Please refer a good media.
thanks

You mean back up games? No what there is are the different qualities of media and the ink that they use. Over time a cheaper brand will wear out faster than a good one. A top brand like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden have about a 10 year life span. But that should be plenty of time.

As far as media just do a search for a blank media guide. Memorex is one of the worst, i suggest you get some Verbatim.

I highly recommend using Taiyo Yuden too. The other good brands that are notable and have been shared are Verbatim, Ritek, Maxell and Sony. Of course, you need to look specifically at media IDs to determine more precisely if the DVD media brand you bought is authentic or of any good. Check here although it is a bit outdated because there have a few chances and some medias actually have risen in class like Ritek. As for why Memorex is bad, they code out as CMC MAGs, which are generally bad, when you look at the media ID when using DVD Decryptor. So far, I have yet to hear any thing good things of Memorex and rather use TDKs > Memorex simply because of the burn results. Seriously, from a personal standpoint, both the TDK and Memorex have coded out as CMC MAGs yet TDK has 10x better results when burnt than Memorex. My friend actually uses TDK when he plays his games BUT they code out as RICOHJPNs, Riteks basically, and have worked superbly so far.

And where did you hear this? If you're wondering if your games you've burnt are the result of slightly "faded" data, it isn't. The reason your games are as bad as they are is because you're using such bad media. If you use better media, the difference is astronomical, seriously. There's even a dedicated thread here on why Memorex sucks and a comparative/contrast thread of top-tier, 1st-class DVD media brands (dunno about the latter). Other reasons why games could run badly is an aged laser, which I doubt you are the owner of, or a bad burnt due to a hardware complication or you forgot to update the firmware on your burner (a quality burner can further help improve performance and etc).
