Since you posted your problem here, I'm assuming you're from around Europe and considering you have mainly PAL region games, then it only reaffirms my belief. Anyway, what kind of modification are you using? I'm also assuming you're using Swap Magic since you posted here and if you wanted to have your PS2 modded, then I would highly recommend you stick with the older generation PS2s... but enough about that. So, if you have SM, have you tried to switch Video Modes offered by your SM menu before you boot this particular game? You should also make sure your TV can support NTSC display because even if you managed to get the NTSC game loaded to play on your PAL slim PS2, your video may still be distorted which you could do a few things to solve. Try downloading a NTSC2PAL converter (I believe there's one around since there exists a PAL2NTSC one) or you could play on a PC monitor like some have when trying to play other region games like my friend.

Wait a minute, do you even have any sort of modification a.k.a. Swap Magic, a mod-chip, exploit, etc...? It sounds like to me now you don't have any at all...

No problem. To answer your question, you need some sort of modification to play your backed-up games or imports like the one you're having trouble playing right now. There are several methods you can use.

Swap Magic, a cheap alternative many have started out with to play their copies or imports; however, for certain games it requires rebuilding some games, shrinking some files or a combination of both, and plus, there's also a rare 1~5% of PS2 games Swap Magic can't load. Ask here for suggestions on a notable, trustworthy site you can use to purchase your disc from. If you're having any trouble with installation, there are plenty of tutorials here to help you with your problems. swapmagic3.com if you want to check it out yourself. Make sure you use those sites that accept PayPal for your own safety if you hardly buy anything online.

You could get a Mod-chip and although it may be an expensive investment depending on what you get, it's well worth it if you want to avoid the tedium of rebuilding certain games, swapping discs each time before you can play your backup/import and for mere convenience. As for what chip specifically, you can ask around here too.
