I've backed up a copy of Die Another Day to DVD-R but it won't play on my Mustek DVD player. I get "Check DVD" or "Insert DVD". I've tried it on 2 other makes of DVD player and that's the same. It works perfectly on my PC in a DVD-ROM and DVD-RW drive.
The copy was created using DVD-Decrypter > DVD 2 one to compact it to 4.3GB > Nero 6 to burn it. The drive is an NEC 1300A with latest firmware. The copy plays from hard disk at each stage without problems. I thought it was a media problem but I copied an old film (using the same discs and procedure) and that works!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Sounds like a Nero misfire to me....maybe it did not finalise it.....
What settings did you use - Dvd Video or Dvd UDF/ISO, if you used one way, then try the other way.....and did you UNCHECK multisession?
I take it you put ALL files into a VIDEO_TS folder (in uppercase) then imported the folder into Nero?
I have never been able to trust Nero, ever since the problems encountered with version 5, which made me swap to using Recordnow DX (just my opinion, I could never get Nero to be consistant for me).
Thats all I can add really, let us know of the outcome......

thanks for the quick response...
the disc recorded fine according to Nero, all the files are in the right place and it plays back perfectly on my PC.
I'm using the "DVD-VIDEO" setting in Nero which it recommends as the correct format - but I've also tried UDF/ISO mode with the same results....
Could it be protection/incorrect format (if players are a bit more choosy)???

Hmmmmm, you have tried other movies with no problems AND also media using the same method.....
Still, I am very dubious about Nero's compatibilities but others do have good success with it.....
PC's will 99.9% play anything on a dvd so, it is difficult to ascertain where the problem lies.....
You definately are not creating a multisession disc aren't you?
If you are using DVD2One AND putting the result into a VIDEO_TS folder before burning, then I can only assume you have a correctly authored/dvd compliant structure and all that it needs is to burned to a Dvd.
I dont think it is anything to do with protection as DVD2One would reject it otherwise....
Could be just down to the media !!!!!! stumped really.....
If I have anymore thoughts I will post, but I am sure someone will jump in also and maybe add something I may have overlooked.....

Try RecordNowMax..it has a 30-day free trial.
I gave up trying to burn DVDs with Nero because NONE would work in my standalone noi matter what I did.
RecordNowMax, on the other hand, is easy to use and works 100% of the time for me!
Follow this guide:

Nero is definately not burning a multisession disk - the check box is selected (and ghosted) "finalize and don't allow anything else to be added".
I am going to try Record Now Max suggested by Yuriv - the burning software is really the only thing left to eliminate!
I'll let you know what the outcome is..

I was going to suggest Recordnow as I use it always now after the Hoo Hah I initially got with Nero.
However I like to get to the root of the problem, before suggesting alternative software, however in this case it just seems that Nero is being a little temperamental.
The guide that Yuriv suggested is excellent, and I cannot forsee you having ANY problems with it (I wrote that guide - so I'm just blowing my own trumpet for a few letters.....LOL)
If you have any Q's just post them, and let us know how you get on......

Use CloneDVD and AnyDVD to make a working backup as I just backed up Die Another Day last week and CloneDVD made a perfect backup.
CloneDVD copys the DVD then uses it own writing tool to write to the DVD. Excellent software.

Update on the problem...
I used Clone DVD to create an ISO image of the DVD and then burnt it to disc using DVD Decrypter's ISO to DVD feature and the film works perfectly!
I guess the problem was Nero 6 and my setup or something!??!
I tried Record Now Max and the excellent guide you suggested, but it wouldn't let me burn the disc. This seems to be a problem with the NEC 1300A and the cheapish discs I'm using as it won't let me burn at the 4X speed, even though the firmware and discs support it!
Thanks to everyone for your help - it's much appreciated!!

Nice to see you got a result.....
Funny about Recordnow though, you may need the px engine update for it in order to fully support your burner - not sure though as I am not conversant with the NEC burner.....
Anyway good to see you managed a result....

Hey there you could easily save you a step by getting DVD Shrink 3 and Nero these two progs together work great.

cnmsales, do not wish to sound rude but they have been encountering problems using Nero, however, yes DVD Shrink will mean one less program to use and the good advantage (better with a fast PC)is that you can do it all directly from the disc......
No offense intended cnmasales.....but good call on Dvd Shrink

Hey no offense taken and no you didnt sound rude. I still dont see how you figure its a problem with Nero from reading the Op's originall message. There are far to many variables and far to little info on his settings and what not. Good luck

cnmsales....
He has tried on older film using the same brand disc - and it was ok.....so we can assume the media is compatible.
Nero is reporting a completed burn, so according to the program it is complete...
There is no mention of the VIDEO_TS folder, even though I have mentioned it......so that could be problem if they are not using one....
They have tried both of the burning options and made sure they are not creating a multisession disc.....
We know DVD2One generates a dvd compliant structured set of files so we can rule that out from an uncompliant point of view......
My theory is down to the old Nero issue of failing to properly finalise the disc at the end of the burn, even though it reported to have completed successfully......(I always encountered this with Nero Version 5, and Ahead claim that this has been fixed......still dubious cos, others have had issues similar to this)
I have never used clonedvd, but they did an image burn and was successful using it.....
If you do have any other suggestions, then I am sure it would be most welcomed, as I think having Nero up and running would be a distinct advantage......in their case.....I would also be interested if you could help out in anyway....
Cheers........Have a good one.....

The only thing I am thinking is there is probably some setting in Nero that they do not have set write and this is causing this.

When I created a DVD using Nero, I used the DVD Video option to drag and drop all the files from DVD 2 One into a VIDEO_TS folder (which Nero gives you) and then selected burn disc. It goes through the burning process and completes 100% - opens the drawer and says finished. This disc plays perfectly (auto runs in XP and is recognised as a DVD film) but whatever I do will not play in 3 makes of DVD player and a PS2.
The setting definately indicates that Multisession is not selected. I have also tried making a UDF/ISO compilant disc in Nero - dragging the files into a VIDEO_TS folder and that wouldn't work either.
I am new to this game so there may well be something I overlooked - I know the Drive & DVD-R discs work okay as I have got them to work using the method posted earlier. I am open to suggestions to get Nero to work???

Still think it is Nero misfire.....
A trial that I did with Version 5 with the Various options.
Burner - Pioneer A03
Media - Ritek GO4 dye
Standalones - PC/ LG3200E / PS2 / Philips DVDR880 / Cyberhome 402 / Lecson DV900 / Bush 1000
Movie - Spiderman
Method:
Dvd Decrypter
Dvd2one
Nero Version 5.5.5.9.17
Right all was done into a VIDEO_TS folder....
First option was the Dvd Video option - result - did not play in LG3200E/PS2.
Second option was Dvd UDF/ISO - result - played in all EXCEPT LG3200E.
Third option was Dvd UDF only - result - played in ALL of the EXCEPT Bush 1000.
Now I have alot of experience with Nero Version 5, and as you can see - none of the options were 100% compatible with those players.
I also encountered - successful burns BUT sometimes they would not play in the PC either, this was down to Nero not finalising the disc, even though it reported a successful burn......
I believe Nero 6 is slightly different in terms of options, and they have supposedly cured the finalising issue BUT people are still encountering this type of problem, which makes me believe there is still bugs flying about.......
As I said I have no experience with Nero 6, and (based upon my experience with Nero) I am always a little dubious of it's capabilities....
That made me turn to Recordnow DX, and ALL of the above players accept the dvd's produced with no issues.......this works well for me....
I would however recommend flossy to invest in a more solid media such as a ritek GO4 based dye brand......this may just be your problem.....
I am very surprised with the recordnow issue you have, and would suggest to download the px engine update, cos it seems your burner may not be compatible with the standard version.....

Do you mean you will have a VIDEO_TS folder within a VIDEO_TS folder??????
Never actually tried that, worth a go I suppose, but I'll hazard a guess that there maybe problems......interesting though....

Flossy...I use the same version of Nero as u, and was able to successfully burn a dvd that had been ripped by dvd decryptor and shrunk by DVD2One. I remember tho that when I tried to do the wizard manually, it just would not allow me to burn the files I had chosen. But when I used the wizard and chose dvd-video as u did, it burned and ran perfectly on my sony standalone. I used a Maxell dvd+rw disk. Lastly, tho this worked on my sony player...it would NOT play on the ps2. I dunno if this is becuz I used an RW disc or what. My 2 cents.
There is no problem so big, that a brick placed against the proper skull cannot fix =)

VIDEO_TS inside a VIDEO_TS doesnt actually make any sense. There can be no possible advantages to it, and the DVD player may be confused by that. DVD Standalones will automatically look for the DVD file folder (VIDEO_TS), unless of course it is an image. When it does this it first looks for the file names VIDEO_TS.IFO for DVD navigation. Why add to the complexity of this process by trying to confuse (probably the older) the DVD
