Hi ashmat,

Not sure about the cd drive tray. You may need to ask in the hardware forum about that, but let's try a little cleaning on your system first. I will help you as much as I can from the reports below.

The fourth sticky thread above has some general instructions.

Please look that over. Do the file cleaning step as instructed.
Then do the online antivirus scan step as instructed.

Please go to the second sticky thread about free security software.
If you scroll down that page a bit, you will see Spybot Search and Destroy. Please download that program, update its definitions and run it. Do not set any of its security features at this time, as those could interfere with fixes we may need to make to your system.

Then go back to the fourth thread and do the HijackThis log step and post a HijackThis log in this thread.

Thanks.
bc

The CD Drive opening could be a symptom of a virus, as there is a relatively simple VBScript to open it up.

Well...

To start your fix, I will need a HijackThis logfile. You can get HijackThis at this link: link

Then, extract HijackThis from its archive and place it in its own folder - NOT on the Desktop!. This is important. A good location for HijackThis would be the following path:

C:\HijackThis

The program (HijackThis_v_1.99.1.exe) would go in the folder "HijackThis".

Follow the instructions above, run HijackThis, and make a logfile. Post that logfile in a reply.

Edit: For crying out loud, why don't they just make AfterDawn support color? Why do I have to edit it out!?

Gotta hate that Godzilla.

Part of your fix requires you to reboot into Safe Mode. As you will not have Internet access in Safe Mode, it is imperative that you copy and paste these instructions into a Notepad document or print them out for use during your fix.

Please re-open HijackThis. Then:

*Open up the Misc Tools section.
*While in the Misc Tools, click on the Process Manager.
*It should look something like the running processes on the Task Manager. Click on wscript.exe.
*Next, click "Kill Process". Do this multiple times, as there will be more than one wscript.exe file.
*Click the "Back" button on the bottom. This will take you to the scan screen. Do a scan, and place a check mark beside the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Window Title = Hacked by Godzilla
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MS32DLL] C:\WINDOWS\MS32DLL.dll.vbs

*Close ALL windows other than HijackThis and press "Fix Checked".

Follow these directions. The spelling is a bit bad, but it gets the point across:

Quote:
1. Open the Control Panel. When Folder Options cliak at View tab

1. check at Show Hidden files and folders
2. unchuck the Hide extention? and Hide protected operating system file
3. click OK
Close HijackThis and reboot into Safe Mode.
======
In Safe Mode:

Open My Computer. Right-click on the C:\ drive and select "Explore". In C:, open up the Windows folder. Delete the following file:

MS32DLL.dll.vbs

Close Windows Explorer. Right-click on the Recycle Bin and select "Empty Recycle Bin".

Now, reboot back into Normal mode. When you have logged in, go to Start > Run and type in msconfig. Click on the "Startup" tab, and uncheck MS32DLL. Click Apply, and then OK.

Go to Start > Run again. Type gpedit.msc. Select User Configuration --> Administrative Templates --> System. Double Click on file Turn Off Autoplay then Turn Off Autoplay Properties will display

1. Select Enabled
2. Select All drives
3. Click OK

Close GPEdit.

Reboot your computer again. Post a fresh HijackThis log in a reply.
