I was able to make a backup copy of this movie, but the backup copy did not have the close caption at the bottom of the screen or the main movie menu at the beginning like the original? any advice out there?

Did you reauthor the movie using shrink, if so the menu functions are not retained, not sure about the CC option, but try to turn on this feature using the player's remote.
You could try doing a full movie backup with shrink, this will keep the DVD's menu functions as well as all content on the disk. If shrink has a problem with a full backup, try ripping with DVDFab HD gotten here http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm , you can then use shrink with the files ripped to finish the job.

also , when I put the original dvd in player it automatically shows CC because this movie is all foreign language. didn't think the backup would be any different.
thanks

There are 2 English subtitles. You need to keep the smaller one.

I know now it should be the second english subtitle listed. it is 2MB and the 1st one is 3MB.
What about the english-directors comments ? it is 11MB
Will i know this will work before i actually burn my backup? On CloneDVD you can't preview like you can on AnyDVD.
Will this same method work on AnyDVD?

i'm not fimiliar with cloneDVD(since i never used it), is there an option where you can have the output file go to the HDD?
if there is chose that, so you can preview the folder before burning to see if it has the subtitles.
you can also try dvdshrink instead of CloneDVD too.

ok the preserve menu is already checked and I unchecked the larger english subtitle and kept the smaller. When previewing the movie after this there is no change. unless i have to make the backup in order to see change. i am only familular with using CloneDVD and AnyDVD.

I put my backup copy back in my player and got then cc turned on with the remote. not sure i understand why i have to do this with the copy and the original automatically plays on its own?
No menu on my backup still but not a real worry for that!
Thanks to everyone who helped me out.

it is because it is a "forced" caption, which is to say it plays with that subitle track as defualt, and you have unforced it on your back up. every program I know of has the ability to reforce the caption

Ok never knew that
I haven't made many backups with captions to worry about
How do i make it a force caption on my backup , I usually use CloneDVD for just about all my backups.
I think Pans lybrinth is another one with captions, haven't tried it.
thanks for the input though!
