There are some games that don't work on HDLoader but do work on USBExtreme... if I have an extra internal hard drive, can I use it to run USBExtreme (while inside the machine just like an HDLoader system)? Alternatively, I also have a USB/IDE encloser. If I stick the drive in there and then plug the encloser into the PS2, think it'll work?

I dont quite get what you mean.
But if you have an external case and hdd, then all you need is the usbextreme/advance software, if you can play backups then you can just download it from sksapps.com :
Oh and of course the software to put the game onto the usb hdd. Think its on the usbextreme site.

This is what I meant. I wondered if there were two alternate ways to make USBExtreme work with an internal HD (not an actual USB one). This is what I wanted to try:

1) Plugging the hard drive into the back of a fat PS2 via the old network adapter method (i.e. internally), same as I would do for HDLoader or for FFXI, then loading it with USBExtreme.

2) Using a hard drive encloser (a case with an IDE port and a USB plug), and putting the hard drive in there, then connecting the whole thing to the PS2 via the USB port, then seeing if it would trick USBExtreme into thinking it was an actual USB drive.

It seems like method #2 should work, but it doesn't seem to detect it. On the other hand, it still detects my pen drive (which is useless due to its small size) so we know there are no obvious malfunctions with the PS2.

On a (partially) unrelated topic, does anyone know what the difference is between the way USBExtreme runs stuff and the way HDLoader does it? I know some games (I'm thinking Samurai Warriors, personally) work for USBExtreme but not for HDLoader, and I'd like to know if there's any way to take advantage of that fact.

And yes, I know Samurai Warriors sucks, but I still want to play it. Just not enough to justify buying a USB HD.

Never mind, method #2 does indeed work. Turns out there was a loose connection in my enclosure of all things.
