Hi, ive searched and i cant find help on this game so i will ask here.
The full name of the game is "Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner : Raidou Kuzunoha VS Soulless Army". When i swap out and go to boot it it makes the sound like it is booting fine and eventually just hangs on black screen whilst making low level reading dvd noise.

I have another Shin megami game (DDS2) and that boots fine. All my other backups still work fine so its not a laser problem. Its not my media cos all my other backups work fine on this media and i made 3 coasters thinking it might have been a dud dvd or two in the stack, nope. The iso was made from the original PAL version of the game, not some torrent so no problems there and i used dvddecrypter then imgburn like all my other backups no problems there either. I should also add that this is NOT a dual layer game, its about 2.94GB so no TOC problem either.

Im no experienced coder in any way, but in my searches i realised that the system.cnf file for the game isnt normal, it has some weird code instead of the usual boot mode/sles text. All it has is this instead - " 1&ä? R&\ ?*Cúÿ@T $? -? -?
`P Æp &" - without the " " (i dont think it even pasted exactly the same but thats all i can do to show it) . The game i swap out with is my original copy of GTA:ViceCity, which has a normal system.cnf. I tried burning a new backup of the game with the vice city cnf in place of the original (edited it with the right sles number of course) thinking hey its worth a try, but it still boot noise then freeze in same way. Ive tried swapping with numerous programs including swap magic 3.8, cogswap and dvdloader but it does the same thing every time.

Heres a list of whats in the .iso -

IRX folder
SMOVIE folder
SMOVIE2 folder
SOUNDIRX folder
USERIRX folder
DDS3.DDT
DDS3.IMG
SLES_546.29
SYSTEM.CNF
ZZZ100MB.DAT
ZZZ200MB.DAT

So anyone got any ideas? Had a similar problem with a game that you've backed up? DO you know about the different SYSTEM.CNF file? Id love to hear your suggestions! I use backups to play the games while keeping the originals in (almost) mint condition, in case you were wondering.

Even though I don't have this game, I should ask this... have you tried dummying those 2 ZZZ.dat files? They look like dummy files with no use (the awful naming of the files don't help it sound important). Try replacing those ZZZ. dat files and see if the game might load. Sometimes dummy files for some certain games aren't as obvious.

Great game i recommend to anyone, especially if you have played any shin megami dds and ever wanted to shred the shit outta those little bastard faerie enemies hack and slash style in real time!
