VOB removing sound...file format not found

Newbie here, did a bit of searching but did not find my answers. I am sure someone can help. Anyway, I used DVD shrink to rip a dvd to my hard drive. I unchecked the audio button b/c i did not want sound. Now when I try to add media into arcsoft to edit, I get the unknown file format. The file is still a VOB but it wont let me insert it. I can insert orignal clip with no problem. The file will play on power dvd and divx player. My plan was to remove sound from the dvd, and convert to mpeg, avi or another form but my plan has backfired. Any suggestions appreciated.
