Hello,

I need some advice. What 4X media brand should I buy.

The Ritek costs about 50 more than the Princo.

However, when I read the media reviews from www.dvdrhelp.com the Princo media plays quite well and is almost as good as the Ritek.

Basically, I am wondering about 2 things. What is the dud rate on these brands and which brand will be best for DVD player compatibility.

Thanks

I can't say anything about the Ritek because I don't have it. They are suppose to be GREAT.

But I used so far 400 DVDPro(they are made by PRINCO, try to search this media in dvdrhelp) 1x discs and more than 50 DVDPro 4x. You can have the 4x under a buck at Meritline and CDRDVDRMEDIA. Those discs are great for the prices it's unbeleivable. They offer very good compatibility(but not as good as Ritek I suppose). I test them on all kind of DVD players(including ps2) and so far I just can't find a DVD player that can't play them.

But you got to be careful if you are not using a Pioneer drive, you can have problem to burn at 4x with cheap media like DVDpro and Princo. Most cheap DVD-R will only work very well on Pioneer's burners.

The thing about Princo Media isn't really about their compatability BUT more about their poor long-term reliability & the inconsistency of the quality of their discs.

You may get one batch which is fine & then find your next batch has problems. They may be cheap but it's a bit hit & miss.

Ritek has better Quality Control so you don't get these sort of problems normally with their discs.

I agree with Tosca, Riteka re so far in front of Princo in terms of quality and compatibility.

My friends told me that the Princo 2x DVD-R is very good, but not the 4x. The Ritek should be much better. I got 100 Ritek 4x DVD-R and using the Pioneer A05 to burn at least 20 at 4x and all good.

In my experience Princo discs are absolute garbage. I've had MANY Princos become unreadable, develop errors, become corrupt, etc. in as little as 2 weeks after burning them.

On the other hand I've burned over 300 Ritek G03 and 150 TDK DVD-R discs and not once had problems with them like I do with the Princos.
