Help with .rar files to get them to play on ps2

I have a game that has .rar and i already have it on iso but i don't know how to burn it on a cd. Can you use DVD-R or DVD+R because i try and it wont work on my ps2. Please help?

the iso is inside the .rar file and once you extract it you dont burn the .rar file too you just burn the .iso alone unless it also comes with an .mds like some of the new games do.

i did burn the iso. Its just that my ps2 saids put a format disc. Do i need swap magic to do that. don't worry i got it thanks.
