Does Hong Kong firmware work on US PS3?

I'm desparate to get my PAL DVDs to play on my US PS3 now that it upscales.

I know that the Hong Kong firmware allows both PAL and NTSC playback. Has anyone know if Hong Kong firmware will work on a US PS3?

Hi - I have a HK PS3, but since the 1.8 upgrade am having problems playing PAL DVD's. Essentially the PS3 seems to try to play the disc but just sits there - and your TV/display says "No signal". Have tried it with Upscaling turned off as well. Prior to the 1.8 upgrade, it played either a Region Free or All Region PAL DVD. Just thought you might want to know that. I'm
