Just a bit of info on So called Maxell "OEM" Disks..sometimes called Silver Top or Unbranded. I have done alot of research and it seems that these are all fakes. From what I have learned..Maxell Disks have a number printed on ONE side of the disk only and the number ALWAYS starts with "M". If your disks have a number on front and back and the number starts with "IF" they are not true Maxell Disks.
I bought a batch of these disks a month or so ago and I had 7 coasters in a row. The disks would start out fine but wouldnt finish or finalize...So I tried something different. I checked to see how much actual data got burned to the disk. It was 4.29GB instead of the 4.36 that im used to. After that I set my DVD2ONE to 4372MB and Instantcopy to 4.29GB and the rest of the disks worked fine after that...
So to sum it all up..these disk..while NOT true Maxell disks..CAN be used..just not at full capacity. Other than that they seem to be pretty decent...After the initial few coasters I havent had another in over 50 disks

Yes, but the true question is, will you be able to play them in another week?

Maxell does not make dvd-r. This is a blatant rip-off of maxells name, and has been tried with other name brands too (Piodata is NOT made by Pioneer, who doesnt manufacture discs either.)
Pioneer (and I presume Maxell) do BUY discs from others that they sell under their name and brand. Some people claim that they are selling discs from the same factory that makes the discs that Pioneer, Maxell sell but the Maxell case is well documented - Maxell oem discs are basically cr@p. Stay away, dont buy and dont sully the poor company being ripped off (Maxell.) Oh yeah, Piodata isnt very good either.

Err, sorry to have to disagree with SethK on this......

BUT, maxell & Pioneer DO manufacture DVD Media, just do a search on dvdrhelp.com's dvd media list.

The Maxell manufactured media has the ADIP code starting with 'MXL', while Pioneer's manufactured media has an ADIP code starting with 'PVC'. Both these Companies do however also use other manufacturer's discs with their brand printed on them. (ADIP=media code)

This 'OEM Maxell' media sounds like it is an illegal conterfeit disc using Maxell's Stamper ID, the same thing happened with TDK's Stamper being used by a Taiwanese manufacturer a while back, illegally aswell. Those discs were also utter garbage quality too :(
