I have a Sony DRC-TRV20E and I'm trying to connect it to my PC through the
DV Out to my firewire card. I also have tried connecting my camcorder
to a couple of laptops through their firewire ports and that works fine with
no surprises. However, on my desktop PC through its non-brand
firewire card, I boot up and although Windows XP sees the card OK and it appears in my Device
Manager list, when I plug my camcorder in and flick it to 'Player' or 'camera' or 'memory' Windows
XP detects the 'Digital Video Device' and adds a 'Sony DV Camcorder' to my
Scanners and Cameras list, then the problems begin.
When I fire up either Microsoft Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere I seem
to be able to send one command to the camcorder before it stops responding.
If I press Play on either software, the camcorder will start to play,
although no video will be received at the PC end (I can see through the
viewfinder that it is playing on the camcorder however). Then the camcorder
seems to stop responding to the software (I can still operate the camcorder
from its own controls but not from any software), if I try to click anything
else I get a message that the Device is not responding as it has been
disconnected and it disappears from the Scanners and Cameras list.
It seems really strange that XP seems ok with my Firewire card and detects
the camera being plugged in correctly, allows me to send one command, and
then disconnects from my camera. It works again if I switch the
camera off and on again and the process repeats ad nauseam.
As I said above, I don't think that this is my camera at fault as it works
fine on the laptops.
I have reinstalled XP and everything many, many times and have trawled the internet looking for solutions. Although many people seem to have difficulties with Sony's products, I've not managed to find a solution.
I would be very grateful if you anyone could let me have any information that you may have gathered.
Best wishes
Graham
