i have swapdisc coder 3.8 and an external 500 gb hard drive. i tried to boot a game with usb advance and it the playstation reads the external harddrive trough the usb but does not load the game. i was wondering if anyone else has tried this

You have a fat PS2!? With a fat ps2 you definately don't want a USB hard drive. Get a 4 pin HDD.

that is what i was thinking. i followed the steps and it reads the harddrive but when i try to load the game it does not load

Do you have a network adaptor? Are you using HDLoader? What games are you trying to boot?
