Hello guys, im new to this community.

I just got a PS2 slim, a black one. I have no clue of what version it is, what model, nothing. I just know its a BLACK SLIM Ps2.

I wanted to play backup games (that i burn from my PC), and thats all. I dont want to use any soldering, or opening PS2 or anything like that. I just wanted to use the easiest and simplest way of modding my PS2 so i can play backup games.

I was thinking on using the Swap Magic, could you guys tell me, or guide me through it? I need a guide, i need to know if its worth to buy it, if its simple to use, and WHICH ONE SHOULD I GET? I mean like, which Version of Swap Magic, its better or i have to get the slide tool and all that alluminium thing. (Thats THE question)

Please help me, i cant afford to go and buy just released games.

Thank you guys, ill be waiting for your answers.

Ive seen some guides.

Now i have 2 questions.

1-Do I need the slide tool for the SLIM PS2 too?
2-Does the "magic disc" works for EVERY slim ps2 version?

Im really looking forward to buy this magic swap thing, its crazy!

http://www.mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm

Use this to check what PS2 version you have.

If you are new to modding, definately get Swap Magic. It's a good way to mod you PS2 without actually opening the console like an inferior modchip. Also, get Swap Magic 3.8. It's the best one. Also, the website where you check your PS2 version in (www.mod-chip.com) is a brilliant site. They sell modchips, they also have guides and many other things. For slim playstations you don't need the slide tool. Only the magic keys set. And the disc should work on every PS2.

Thanks alot for your time.

I just need to know one more thing.

But first lets make it clear: My Black Slim PS2 Version is 15A. So, all i need is the Magic Swap CDs Last version for my PS2. (Right/Wrong<explain>)

Ok, what i needed to know is where to get the latest version of the Magic Swap CD for my ps2. Cant find it in mod-chip.com.

Thanks once again.

[edit]
Is there anyway i could talk to you faster? Through msn or what ever? Cause i think for version 15 ill need the magic keys, so ill have to get the Swap Magic CDs + Magic Keys. Is that it?

Think this is the right one? http://www.mod-chip.com/index-cart-us.php?go=en/slim_kit_pro.php

+ I have that metal lid thing, and i dont want to bend it or open my ps2.

This is all you did. It's the SWAP MAGIC (not magic swap) disc plus the slide tool (for fat PS2, but ignore it since you don't have a fat PS2) and magic keys (which you need for your slim PS2). Also, follow the tutorials.

http://www.mod-chip.com/index-cart-us.ph...ct_ps2_main.htm

This is basically the same thing like before, but with some extra features. It Let's you play PS1 backups and imports on PS1 or PS2 using Breaker Pro. Breaker pro is basically like swap magic, but works on PS1 and PS2 nad let's you play backups and imports of PS1 games. Using it on PS2 it's just like swap magic, you swap the discs when prompted.

But, some day you might get bored of swapping and all the lacking of a real modchip, you might consider actually modding your PS2.

Site features:

1.They mod PS2s. (You send them your PS2 and they mod it)

2.Repair service for consoles.

3.They let you buy premodded consoles

4.Much more!

Thanks alot OmriSama.

I just bought the Magic Key II Set v3.6 for slim PS2, @ http://www.mod-chip.com/en/magic_key2_set.php.

I didnt get the one you told me to, because it had that Coder CD. I dont really want that, i dont cheat in games and i think it would be a waste of money buying it.

They shipping it tomorrow.

Thanks alot again!

NOOOO! You don't understand! It's not just cheats! coderalso has much better compatibilllity, and it boots up files from USB drives so you can use emulators!!

Ok... it's your BIG loss...

And you can't download swap magic as far as i know.

Please, give me your msn so i can talk to you better.

(I already made a mistake, damn it!)

Well, i don't know about compatibillity actually, but CODER is better then 3.6 not just in the cheat system, but also easy way to boot up homebrew and sutff.

Well... call their customer service?

Both the Swap Magic 3.6 and Swap Magic 3.8 Coder are quite similar. The only real difference is the addition of a built-in cheat device for the SM 3.8 coder disc set compared to the SM 3.6 combo, which is mainly used to boot your backed-up or import games. There isn't so much of a problem booting homebrews, exploits, or whatever else with SM 3.6. The only difference I can see is the ease at which you can do it with the SM 3.8 coder compared to the older 3.6 version when launching such stuff. Besides, if you really wanted to boot homebrews or whatever it's called, you can always find a SM 3.8 coder ISO and boot it with SM 3.6 if you're having trouble booting those homebrews with 3.6.

Anyway, as far as game compatibility goes, there really isn't a difference. The only substantial difference you should be worried about when you wanted to boot a certain game was if you had to do multiple switches before you could even play such and such i.e. having a Swap Magic 2.0, booting a copy of Swap Magic 3.6 and then perhaps needing the use of cogswap, cd-loader/dvd-loader.

Z3120: Thank you Z3120 for your explanation, i guess the version i just bought is ok then. But i still have a question: What do you mean with those multiple switches? I still have to buy something else? Like that cogswap, cd-loader/dvd-loader? Or only with SwapMagic V2.0?

avz10: Yes there is, but, you will have to burn it, and burn it into a DVD-R, which means your "standard" (not modded) ps2 WONT recognize.

Cogswao,cd loader and dvd loader are free software. He's talking about you burning a copy of Swap Magic 3.8 to a disc, then, if you don't know, when swap magic 3.8 boots up in the ps2, it looks for usb pendrives and devices. Then it boots up a file called SWAPMAGIC.ELF in the root directory in the pendrive called SWAPMAGIC if it finds it.

I have one more question now.. i bought the v12-v15 Magic Key II + Swap Magic v3.6 (set) + free Slim Kit Pro NTSC(USA/CANADA) and when they gave me a username/password to see the manual, i saw a manual for magic keys II for version 12-14, didnt find ANY magic keys for v15!

But i think that v15 would be almost the same thing as v14. v14 has that metal lid and v15 does also.

Am i wrong/right? And if wrong, where can i find a magic keys manual for v15?

What I meant by that example is those who have the outdated Swap Magic 2.0 version, instead of buying yet another Swap Magic 3.6 version to increase/remedy their game compatibility problem defer to using multiple swaps through the use of CD-loader/DVD-loader, CogSwap or booting the Swap Magic 3.6/3.8 coder ISO before they can even play certain games that SM 2.0 has problem with but not SM 3.6.

Quotes Omirsama: "Cogswao,cd loader and dvd loader are free software. Nah, you don't even need a pendrive/flashdrive to boot up an ELF with Swap Magic 3.6. You can easily burn those ELF files onto a disc and boot it with Swap Magic 3.6. The only reason I would suggested using Swap Magic 3.8 coder to boot those ELF files to begin with is if you had problems trying to get those ELF files to launch from the burnt disc you placed the ELF files on using CD-loader/DVD-loader as a template or something.

It works for the v15 console, but you're better off doing the tissue and tape method. The magic switch you need to hit with one of the magic keys was moved slightly more to the left in the v15 PS2 than what you can see in the video tutorial you may find on the net, hence, why so many people that I've helped had trouble installing it onto their v15 PS2s so I suggested they either open it up and use something to hold that switch down with or use a straw or something to hit the switch without opening the case between the hinges on the left of the PS2's laser you see that make the PS2's flip-top flip.
