Roll back from Windows Vista to XP2

Thank you in advance for the help!
Recently someone that I know ask me if it was possible to go back to Windows XP. He install Windows Vista like a couple of months ago and since then he's been experinence a lot a problems .Specially when he wants to make a back up of one of his movies.I Told him to make a backup of his HD and then reinstall the XP cd and follow the instructions.
Was my advice the proper one or there's another way?

yes that would work. i would just make a 10 gig backup partition on the drive then back up all my music and files. then just reinstall xp.
