is it good for the dv tape, because i've ruined a few tapes, they ended up being scratched up on one side, and i don't have the money to buy a dv player. i usually hook up my camcorder via firewire and capture that way to either my cpu or standalone dvd recorder.

well there no reason it could be harmful, the ports are built in such a way that they only give out a certain amount of power to external sources, and if its just data transfer than there is no problem at all, if you charge like 4 objects by using your usps in you computer well then that could be bad and your could ruin the ports, but other wise your fine
