I'm having problems with my CDR Drive. When I put a disc in, I can hear it trying to load the disc, but it doesnt do anything. I can hear it starting to run, but then it just stops. If I take the disc out and put it back in a few times, eventually it will work, but only after trying about 20 times. What could the problem be? Could someone pleas help me? And unfortunately I'm not an expert with computers, so I dont understand really technical things.

Gonna need some more info:
1. Operating system
2. Make and Model of burner

To determine your make and model of your optical drives; if you happen to have Nero Infotools installed, start it up and under the Drive tab, it will list all the relevant specifications and capabilities of your burner. The actual name of your burner is listed in the drop-down box at the top (those numbers before the name of your burner are important too!). You can get InfoTools from http://www.cd-rw.org/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/nero_info_tool.cfm

You might have an issue with ASPI. You should consider checking that frist because it requires only one reboot and can eliminate a host of problems: For more information regarding ASPI see http://cd-rw.org/articles/archive/aspisetup.cfm

Another thing you may try to do is uninstall your drive and then reboot and let Windows autoinstall it for you. To do this:
1. Control Panel
2. Switch to 'Classic View' if need be
3. System Properties
4. Hardware
5. Device Manager
6. DVD/CD-ROM Drives
7. Right click on your drive and uninstall it.
8. Reboot

Could be your drive is on it's way out OR the laser is dirty, Try to use a CD-drive Cleaning disc to see if that helps fix it.

When I said CD-R I only meant CD-Rom, not a burner, because I don't have a burner. The CD-Rom Drive is a Samsung DVD-Rom SD-608 and I am running on Windows 98SE.

I know this makes me sound very stupid, but I really don't know how to do it. Can you please tell me how to uninstall my CD-Rom Drive and then reinstall it?
