well it really depends. As far as people modding their consoles to play back ups, the the Samsung drives have a more advanced firmware that they use.

As far as unmodded consoles they will all be pretty much the same.

Unmodded I think Benq would be the best since they said it's quieter than the rest. If we are taking about being modded, then Samsung is definitely what you want first.

I'd agree, sammy all the way if its for modding. Although I have been reading that the Benq is pretty similar to the sammy so may be just as good when the new firmware comes out for that.

i have two consoles modded, one with hitachi and one with sammy.

the only difference i can see is that the sammy will play games on cheaper media better than the hitachi does.

i have 15 games burnt on disc that were only £1(philips) each and they all play on the sammy with no probs but only 4 of them work on the hitachi drive and even then sometimes you put it in a few times to get it to work. on the other hand i have 10 games burnt on verbitim discs (£20 for 5) and all work on both consoles with no probs what so ever.

im still using 5.2b on the sammy as i don't use xbox live (never have,never will)

pretty sure it is because of the slower read speed for backups that this firmware provides.

MS28 is my fav, but I have a fondness for Hitachi drives because it's the first one I ever got..
