Guys,

First post, be nice! If it's in the wrong area, I'm sorry!

I have an 700Mb AVI file where you get the standard 3 second "This file can only be played with 3WPlayer please visit www. etc. etc."

I know most responses will be; delete the file it's rubbish or don't download 3WPlayer it's full of spyware. I am aware that this media player is bad news & won't be installing it on this PC. I have however installed it on an old machine & the played the file It works perfectly & is of good quality,

Can anyone give any advice on the below.

1. What happens to these AVI files so a standard media player will only show 3 seconds of rubbish?

2. Is there any codec that will plug into media player to get round this problem?

3. Has anyone managed to figure out a workaround for these type of files?

I would like to understand how this works, not necessarily because I desperately want to understand how this can be done, is this the future of copyright protection??

Any thoughts guys??

This 3WPlayer is a real piece of work & a real pain in the A$$. Trend Micro quarantines their spyware with every scan. The CiD help popups that accompany this software are hard to get rid of.

I've DLed several files labled as aXXo .avi files. All the same size: 703.85 MB (which, of course I hadn't noticed until none of them opened and played on other media players). Although they purport to be different movies, 4 of these open Shrek 3; others open as the movie they claim to be. When that is played on 3WPlayer the quality is terrible.

I am a novice to Torrent files and the necessary players, but MPlayer, Media Player Classic, GOM and Windows Media Player all seem to work great.

Is there a work around? A codec I can load that will play these movies in a different player?

Is this the sign of things to come?

Is there any way to tell before I download if these videos need 3WPlayer? Some don't have any comments to inform.

Any information would help this NooB :)

I have just downloaded shrek the third and the file says I need 3wPlayer to play the file. I have never came across this before and I would also like to know if there is any way around this so I could watch the file on a normal media player.

I decided to download the 3w Player and my security picked something up thankfully it stopped it before it got the chance to start, the file i downloaded was shrek the third but i would like to be able to burn this to dvd so if anyone finds a way please could you share with us

You can "convert" the file. Actually it's a decryption, not a conversion.

See here for details and serveral perl code snippets to convert the files:

I too recieved this junk when I downloaded "The Last Legion"
The Last Legion (2007) Eng TS xVid.avi
I hope this isn't a repeat of anothers- See article, It describes a Perl Script which I don't understand that I think may "fix" the file. Search 3wPlayer and look for site by megaleecher.

Hello, I have downloaded and opened the viewer using Visual Basic 6, it is a complete package of adwares programs, a trojan virus that is programmed to go fetch more adware every 30 seconds, and it seems that the DivoCodec is the same thing as the 3wPlayer. This crap is written to create random generated names and registry entries in Windows. its the real bad stuff.

As a solution, I and a friend wrote a "3W-Decoder" that takes the beginning crap off of the video so it is once again playable on any player.
It is a very simple to use program that you "Select the 3wPlayer" file and it will remove the gayness and allow you to watch the video.

The biggest problem is that I have found that dozens of the files are all the same movie.... For instance.... I downloaded 9 copies of the movie SHOOTER(2007) that were named with titles of other movies. One is some stupid German Language Movie that appears to be "HELL" in the title but everything is Deutch.

Not one of the movies I have downloaded is actually what the file name is. they are not at all legit. Just as good to delete them.

If you would like a copy of the decoder just to see what you got...
