I bought USBextreme for my slimline PStwo about 2 weeks ago. I've come to notice the compatability is not the best. I was wondering that if I get a hold of the swap magic image, can I load it from USBExtreme, and then just play a backup game? And if yes, will I still need the slide cards, fliptops, etc. or any other methods, or will I be able to do it without any other accessories?

If anyone has tried this, i'd appreciate all the help I can get, thanks.

Yea, I already saw that guide, i was trying to get as much info as I can...too little too late, but I already bought USBExtreme.

I got SM 3.8 to run from USBExtreme. I can't know for sure if i can keep going because my slimline doesn't have any additional SM accessories. I was thinking that if I put the backup in before loading SM from the HD, I wouldn't need to swap after loading it. However that didn't work.

Thx for the reply.

Well if you decided to but the swap disc, also get the small parts to make the process work. It's a magic keys that you need to have. This is the example. you might want to look other site for a cheaper price.

If you have trouble on installing them, go ahead and ask it. I can help you all the way. ;)

You could always do a tissue and tape method listed here I believe if you're doing the Swap Magic route. Better than relying on the magic keys if you happen to have the v15 PS2s or if your keys came bent or something since it is much easier from my experience.

I figured I might order magic keys...I don't mind spendin the couple bucks for them...but i'm very impatient...and the tissue and tape method looks very good right about now...hey if u could do it urself why not? Plus my warranty is way overdue.

I'll give it a try and be sure to post back with results.

Thanks!

So it didn't work out.

Jax can u elaborate on the exact steps of how you did this?

These are my steps:
1) boot USBextreme
2) load swapmagic 3.8
3) disk stops spinning
4) replace disk with backup
5) hit x (normal boot)
6) hit x (default video settings)
7) boots blank

I did this with spiderman 3 (PAL converted to NTSC)...so I decided HEY IT MIGHT BE THE DVD....I tried original PS2 games for the swap.....still nothing.

I never ran any games i just booted swap magic to the menu.

first i ran my ar max cd, got cdloader.elf to boot up off my usb
then it said insert disc, i loaded the swap magic 3.6
then this is where i got to the swap magic menu and assumed
that all i would have to do is insert a game

not sure why i was doing this, i just wanted to boot games from my usb hd, but i kept getting a black screen. i finally did get one to load and actually work but i downloaded the iso off the net. when i try to rip them they will not load.

If you know why im having this problem maybe u should try just a memory stick and ar max. benifits are that u wont have to put any knife of slider in your ps2 all you have to do is load them from your usb hd.

note: i have cd version of swap magic that i downloaded
