I have been reading some of the threads in the forum but most of them get so long that it confuses the issue.

I have bought a Pioneer A06. I would like to know from those THAT USE THE DRIVE what media is best and/or you have had best results with for all 4 formats:

Dvd R-
Dvd R+
Dvd RW-
Dvd RW+

Also what programs do you think are great and essential when burning DVDs please.

Thank you.

I dont use the drive, but know from others that do that Ritek G04's DVD-R work great in it. However, some people are having issues with writing at 4x. There are threads on this issue in the forums.

Thanks for the answer. Do you know why there are issues with writing on those disks at 4X and are there any solutions?

Also what about the other 3 formats?

Dvd R+
Dvd RW+
Dvd RW-

thanks.

I have the Pioneer 106/A06 burner.
Dunno about these 4x issues with the drive personally as mine hasn't given me that particular problem.

-R discs : At the budget end, Ritek G04/G03 dye discs work well, for the more expensive stuff, MCC (Verbatim) & Pioneer's own 4x media are probably the best choices.

+R discs : Arita 4x discs are okay (but i had some batch issues) or Ritek branded 4x. Higher priced/quality media, Ricoh-branded 4x or the Taiyo Yuden 4x , both v.good.

Don't use RW discs so no comments on those.

Nero & Record Now Max/DX are probably all you need, though i personally use DVD decryptor for burning ISO/GI image's, best of all its FREE!

Being a nubie take this with a grain of salt. I use Memorex dvd-r at 2x with no problems so far. I tried it once at 4x and got a c:10:00 error (dirty disk). I typically don't max out burns for this reason.
I put together "commercial" master CDs for some technical societies and when I started sending disks to be reproduced, the professionals said the data was there but the burn was sketchy. No problems when I burned at 1/2 speed.

Programs I like:
dvd shrink
Nero 6
dvd decrypter

Optionial;
VirtualDub
