if i were to sell my current psp, and buy a new one from future shop, best buy, eb games, walmart, etc. Would i receive a psp with firmware 1.00 or firmware 3.50 (the latest one), please answer beacuse i don't want to make the wrong decision, the reason i am buying a new psp is cuz im stuck on this current version (3.40). thanks in advance.

depends. I haver had friends buy a new PSP with firmware 2.81 and 2.71

I have not seen any new PSP with anything later than 2.81 out of the box.

Here's a code of reference for you when you buy a new psp.

A = 1.5 confirmed
B = 1.51 confirmed
C = 1.52 confirmed
D = 1.52 confirmed
E = 1.52 confirmed
F = 2.0 confirmed
G = 2.01 confirmed
H = 2.50 confirmed
I = 2.60 confirmed
J = 2.70 unconfirmed
K = 2.71 confirmed
L = 2.81 confirmed
M = 3.01 confirmed
N = 3.03 unconfirmed
O = 3.10 confirmed

So...
? A-K = Can be downgraded with no need for further purchases (excl. MS and USB cable)
? L-N = Can be downgraded only with a copy of GTA: LCS with the 2.00 update on the disc.
? O and over = No downgrade at the present time.

u will find the letters on the sticker right next to the barcode. it's the sticker with double barcode. I've just went to fry's today city of industry, california and all the psp they sell has the code of 'P' . P = firmware 3.11
