Capturing Analog Video via Canopus advc 110 converter

Please can anyone help as I'm at my wits end. Just purchased the canopus advc 110 converter to convert all my old VHS family tapes into digital format,using a MacBook Pro and the software IMOVIE which is included on the laptop. Getting connected is fine, capturing is fine but it is in black and white. I have tweaked the DIP Switches, especially switch 5, both off and on on the converter but does not change. I am capturing from a JVC Compact VHS camcorder which has only two jacks, one each for video and audio. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
