Edit VRO Files on DVD-RAM burnt by Toshiba Set Top

Hi,
Hope this is the right forum! I Have a Toshiba RD-XS30 DVD set top recorder which produces excellent recordings on its HDD and DVD-RAM discs. I record a lot of broadcast programming such as Sporting events which I'd like to archive but I'd like to edit out all the commercials and moronic announcer comments which occurr during the breaks. The Toshiba does have editing capabilities but I'd rather do the editing on my computer and produce a finished product, preferably a -R. To this end I've bought a Lacie DVD-RW/RAM external drive which came bundled with WINDVD and ShowBiz.

I recorded content on a DVD-RAM disc from the Toshiba and inserted the disc in the Lacie expecting to see the VOB video files with which to edit using Showbiz but to my disappointment the VIDEO_TS folder contains a file type *.VRO which ShowBiz does not recognize. Interestingly, as soon as I pop the -RAM cartridge in the computer WINDVD has no trouble playing the video. So my questions are as follows:

1. How do I convert the VRO files to VOB or are there plugins for ShowBiz or alternative software which can recognize and edit the VRO files?

2. What do I do with the other myterious files (*.IFO, *.BUP) assuming I'm able to solve the VRO file problem?

Obviously, I'd like to the final edited product to be compatible with the Toshiba. Could anyone give me a clue?
