So I burned the copy using Nero Burning ROM with it being burned as a DVD Image, the burn speed set to 4x with settings for Write and Finalize Disk both selected. I used a Maxtor 16x DVD-R and have a fat PS2 with a flip top lid and the Swap Magic 3.8 CODER disks. So when I put the game in to play everything loaded up and ran fine untill the matches started where then a very bad case of slowdown occurs causing the audio to stutter or cut out completely. After the match introductions everything is fine except when a cinematic move is triggered it goes back to having the same audio and slowdown problems. Anybody have any ideas on what might be wrong and what are they best burn settings to use either in Nero or Alcohol 120%?

What's the media IDs on those Maxtor DVD-Rs? Check here. Unless they happen to be Maxell DVDs in disguise, I'm automatically assuming it's a bad case of getting bad quality media rather than using some good old top-tier brands like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim for much better performances and so forth. You can also grab some Sony, Ritek or Maxell if they happen to be nearby in stores. And avoid using 16x DVDs unless they're Verbatim. Also, update the firmware on your burner using the DVD Decryptor option where it'll link you to a site to show you the appropriate firmware to update your particular burner with.

Weird. I use 16x Sony DVD-R and they've never failed me.

It depends what you expect and how you compare your originals to your backups. I personally found 16x Sony DVDs to be a big disappointment when I wanted to play games that needed to be burnt around 4 gigabytes like Tales of the Abyss, Final Fantasy 12 and Valkyrie Profile Silmeria when I first started. Ever since I grabbed some Taiyo Yuden DVD+Rs, I've been happily content since with premium results quite similar to the performance I can get from my originals. Results do defer from PS2 to PS2, media brand to media brand, CPU hardware to CPU hardware and so forth. The best thing is to do what performs best for you. If those 16x Sony DVD-Rs work fine for you, so be it. But I was merely suggesting to the topic creator what has worked wonders for me in my experience and understanding.
