maybe a stupid question but i have been making my avi's to dvd for some time now but just noticed the last one i done was widescreen like all of them are so in tmpenc i selected DVD pal not DVD pal(16:9)when played before burning it looked fine when i burned to dvd and watched on my tv some of the names at the beginning were cut off
basically what i'm asking is if my input avi has black border 16:9 should i always encode in tmpgenc at 16:9

thanks

Well, it ain't a stupid question, because the converting can be a little tricky. I actually don't use TMPEG anymore, but I think that there is an option called "Keep Aspect Ratio". You can find it if you choose "Advanced options". Then TMPEG analizes the AVI and choose automaticly the correct size. I hope it will help.

Seito, what encoder do you use? I always use TMPGEnc. I have found TMPGEnc to work for all my needs. I was wondering if there is anything better than that.

I use a german program called Davideo für Filme aus dem Internet (for movies from the internet). I think there is a german version only, but it's really great, although not really fast. I don't use TMPEG anymore because I had problems with opening xVid files.

GordianKnot - Uses virtualdubmod to encode but it has a really nice GUI which easy to use for selecting resolution and bitrate. Even calculates aspect ratio error at a your selected resolution.

Virtualdub / virtualdubmod: If used in combination with Avisynth, you get optimal results.

DVDx - simple to use.

Life is but a dream...so wake me up already!!!

RNF1968: give CCP SE a shot... you might be pleasently surprised :-)

Personally however since i deal with so very few (S)VCDs, just use TMPGEnc. :-)
