I have a major problem. I have backed up some of my dvds, but the problem is the DVD-r media. The discs are constantly getting scratched and being left unplayable. Do you have ANY ideas on how to prevent this?? When the discs get scratched, they dont play. These scratches are from people, not players.
After reading many post on the forum about the problems with using labels on dvd media (back-ups) It seems clear we're not able to protect the top sides of our back-ups to decrease the damage that sometimes happens with normal use.I've found that Ritek makes media for Ridata and the type I'm buying has a matte topside that almost looks like a printable surface ,but they aren't printable.I prefer these over the chrome (or mirror like) suface of the other Ritek media I used before,as they aren't prone to fingerprints and smudges, and this matte finish seems to add more protection.Give these Ridata discs a try until someone comes up with a label that's safe to use.Good luck!
Some DVD makers like TDK say they have more scratch-resistant media, but for you, I'd suggest you buy some of those slim CD cases when they go on sale. I bought 50 for $8 bucks, and they hold 2 DVDs each. Or just don't leave them out to be used as coasters!
I dont leave them out or anything. I have a big CD case that fits like 256 or something and I put them all in there. I try really hard to keep them from getting scratched, but its difficult when I lend them to people. Maybe Ill get some of those cases for when I lend the DVDs to people... Thanks for all your help. Any suggestions are still welcome.
No problem. I HAD the same problem too when I loaned DVDs to friends and family. They were in mint condition when they left my hands, but when they came back, they looked like they were used as frisbees. No lying. So rather than give them a lecture so they can just call me anal, I just don't lend them out anymore. And if they ask, I'll tell them. :)
Quote: should have been a little more specific, The bottoms of the CD get scratched. Where the movie is... I have labels on all the tops of my DVDs.
I thought you were very specific - dont know how that got onto labels.
Quote:Er... don't fucking touch the playing surface
Laughing my arse off ;-)
Anyway, i think the best thing for you to do is to give them out in their boxes. Show your mates the condition they are in and tell them if they come back scraped you'll cut their balls off and feed them to the dogs. If its a women, improvise, nipples might do the trick LOL :-D
