Unlocking Nokia E62 via flashing firmware

I found a few guides online which explain how to upgrade/debrand a Nokia E62. Apparently, the Cingular-ATT Branded firmware of Nokia E62 had some problem with Java applications which bothered alot of customers and someone posted this tutorial.

What I would like to know is, if you upgrade the phone's firmware (to an unbranded firmware or someother GSM Carrier's firmware) and debrand it, does that unlock the phone as well? if not, does it make easier to unlock?
