I dunno about other apps but with DVDx you can rip specific frames and times of specific chapters. (Worse case rip a chapter, it cant be that long, and process it with VDub). The steps on how to do this are included in the guide that comes with DVDx.

Diablo, you can use DVD Shrink in "Re-author" mode.
Simply use the "Start/End" feature to select the portion you wish to keep.
I don't know about PowerDVD, but WinDVD enables you to "capture" a frame and save it as an image. ;)

That's normal. DVD Shrink next version is supposed to include audio in the preview. ;)

This seems to happen quite a lot these days.
If the titles are identical the theory is authoring studios purposedly stick two movie-titles to make copying trickier.
If they are not identical, one might be the widescreen version, the other pan&scan.
I'd suggest you check on the original DVD packaging or by using its menu.
In most cases keeping only the first title should work fine.

DVDx is free :-) If you know the framrate, you can calcuate the number of frames that constitute 5 seconds and set that as the max num of frames to rip.
