Ok, I've looked this up many a time on this and other forums. I have gathered things I need and I might think about ordering them. They are the Swap Magic v36 and the Magic Keys. I am using a slimline. I was getting this because I wanted to import a JAP game, Musou Orochi. So that brings me to the first question I have.
Will the above allow my USA console to play the JAP game?
My next question.
Can I back up this JAP game? I'm not sure if the Swap magic will support a backed up and foreign game.
Help is greatly appreciated.
(also, if you have a cheap site for ordering the above 2 I mentioned, could you tell me? Right not the best I have found is $25. That includes the Magic Keys and Swap Magic. Pretty good deal, but if anyone has better it would be cool.)

Yes, it will. Although you really don't need the use of the magic keys. Besides, the way the magic keys are designed to work, you can't fully close the lid on the slim PS2. I fully suggest doing the tissue and tape mod instead of purchasing the magic keys. Check here or here.

It doesn't matter what region the game is from. Whether it's a PAL, NTSC or NTSC-J region PS2 game, backing them up is all the same. I have a v15 NTSC slim PS2 and have successfully backed-up my Tales of games just like any other U.S. game I buy here if it was Kingdom Hearts 2 or Dragon Quest 8.

25 dollars seems pretty cheap already. Is that including tax if needed and shipping and handling?

Thanks. I'm just gonna do the keys because its included in the $25 package and its supposed to be a quick install. The Tape-tissue method seems pretty cool but from what I've read up on it I need to open my PS2, and I'm not too fond of opening my systems for fear messing them up. I opened my wii but I couldn't do anything and had to have my father install the modchip.
The $25 is for the swap magic 3.6 and magic keys. The shipping I'm assuming will be anywhere from 4-10 and I have no idea about any tax. I need to wait until I get home tomorrow to buy it
Thanks for the help ^-^

Nah, like I said, the tissue and tape mod can work both ways. You can either use the straw where you need to hit the switch underneath where you install key C or you can open up your slim PS2 and hold down the switch with something. So really, it's flexible. But it's your choice. I highly wouldn't recommend playing with the slim PS2's lid open considering how bad the ventilation system is compared to the older generation of fat PS2s.
Edit: oops, my bad. Didn't say it previously.

Well I'll try both methods. The tape/tissue and the keys. I'll experiment and see what I like best. My swap magic will be here sometime around Monday so I'll give it a go then.

Alright, well, post here again if you have problems during the process. As for using both the Magic Keys and Tape and Tissue method together on the slim PS2, I highly don't suggest doing that. Of course you probably meant to say magic keys or the tape and tissue mod but let me say this. Unless you decide to do a slight modification to your slim PS2's lid, you will most likely be unable to play with your slim PS2's lid closed (unless the black slim PS2s lid are different from the silver slim PS2s) which is why I would suggest doing the tape and tissue mod instead of using the magic keys. And besides, you'd be quite surprised how hot your slim PS2 would get if you left that open compared to leaving it closed while playing although the slim PS2's ventilation system in my opinion is just poor to begin with (with my v15 slim PS2 I so luckily gotten, sigh)

Ok, well I got my swap magic and magic keys. The magic keys work. I can get discs to spin. Now what I have problems with is the Swap Magic DVD 3.6. It dosn't always load. The PS2 Logo shows and then wont load anymore.
It did load once and I got to the DVD screen. Cool. I put in my backup and clicked play game. Not a valid PS2 disc. This is a backuped JAP game. Well then, thats not cool. I changed the TV mode from normal to NTSC or something like that. Still not working. I tried PAL(even though I know it isn't a PAL game) and it didn't work. Why isn't my DVD loading?
Also, the CD version of swap magic loads every time. The DVD one only loads sometimes.

What version is your slim PS2? You can check here. It could either be a bad burn, which if it is so, you should test it out on another PS2 rather than using your slim PS2 to see if the results duplicate. If the results do duplicate onto the other PS2, then it could possibly be a bad burn, and in that case, you could/should consider requesting a replacement at the place you bought it from.
Other possibility is that your slim PS2 has trouble reading DVD games. Depending on how often you use a particular type of disc, if it's either a CD or DVD, you'll notice you'll have more difficulties in playing the type of disc you tend to usually play with. Let's say for example, you tend to play PS2 games on DVDs, those with a silver back, for the past few years. Over the course of the years, you may notice like now perhaps, that you might have trouble loading a particular type of disc like the DVDs you've played so often over the years. This is, however, only a possible problem. Just test out the SM 3.8 coder DVD on another PS2 before you make assumptions on how worn out your PS2's laser might be.

It isn't my PS2. Or my burns. Using the CD version I loaded Cogswap and got a copy of Kingdom Hearts to load but not Orochi, which leads me to believe I have a bad burn or Cogswap doesn't support it.
I have other problems too but I don't want to retype them again, but they are in the other threads by me. So far I have had little success and I am somewhat disappointed because I was really hoping to play this >.>
