I went to wikipedia and looked at the PS2's tech specificaions when i saw this:

Quote:
CPU: 128-bit "Emotion Engine" clocked at 294 MHz (299 MHz on newer versions), 10.5 million transistors
I assume that by newer versions they mean the slimline. Will that 5 MHz affect greatly on game perfromence?

no not really, unless you are really anal retentive about speeds, you wont even notice the difference.

Maybe it's not just loading speeds. Maybe there is improvement in performance like better framerate.

probably, but i dont think there could be that big of a difference. iono maybe the pic quality may be higher, but well to me at least, its too small of a change between the two for me to worry about.

5Mz in the grand scheme of things is really irrelevant. i think the slim PSTwo's have faster DVD drives, so loading times might be improved.

I beg to differ if the slim PS2 is that great. I've been wholeheartedly discontent with it. Besides the portability that comes along with it, I would have been greatly displeased I wasted my money on the slim PS2...

You can't connect HDD is one reason.

The ventilation system in the fat PS2 is vastly superior than the slim PS2. The v15 silver slim PS2 I have overheats extremely bad, and it's quite noticeable during certain intervals within particular games I've played after an hour or so. I really have to follow the recommended playtime suggested by each and every PS2 booklet you can easily see in the first page, which is to let limit playing time to about an hour or 2 and rest periodically right after for at least 30 minutes. Even after all this special treatment I've been giving my slim PS2 -- stop playing at 2 hours tops, rest for a long duration like an hour or so -- the heat in the slim PS2 doesn't fully dissipate in most cases unlike in my v5/v6 fat PS2 where it filters out the heated air fairly well and keeps the motherboard and such very cool. You can actually still feel the warmth residing within the slim PS2 unlike the fat PS2.

I solely bought a slim PS2 because I also wanted to play PSX games, which I have been incredibly disappointed in. In a lot of PSX games I've played like Thousand Arms, Lunar SSSC and so forth, I've had problems affiliated with the slim PS2 rather than a game glitch, bug or issue. It's really heartbreaking considering my fat PS2 with a literal 5% probability in booting PSX games/CDs, can play it much more smoothly without any of these freezes, long loading times and so forth, which is why I've given up playing PSX games on the slim PS2 and mainly use it for PS2 games.

As you can see, most of my grief is based upon the air cooling system of the PS2 rather than it also being a fragile system. For most PS2 games I've played, if I play for about an hour or 2, everything is completely fine (it seems) and runs smoothly. But for the most part, I simply use the slim PS2 nowadays for its portability.

Edit: some English.

not sure what you mean by this, considering all PS2's can play PSX (PSOne) games.

Its been well documented that some slim versions will not play "some" PSX titles.

Also the comments about the slim getting ultra hot vs. the fat Ps2 is a myth. The slim appears to get more hot because of its small size the heat is very close to the case which you can feel. Unlike the fat PS2's where the heat (motherboard) is a good inch from the case in all directions. If you could feel the fat PS2's motherboard you would be amazed at how hot it actually gets.

You can add an IDE HDD to the V12/13 slim only. Sony removed this exploit from the V14/15 slim console which some also assume is why "some" PSx titles wont play on these console as "some" of the circuitry was codependent.
