Is it common to experience the same problems with a chipped GC as it is with a soft-mod?

The error screens and inability to read copied discs etc??

Thanks for the reply, I have so many backed up games that wont work at the moment, I've already spent a whole bunch of cash getting max drive pro's and multimeters and crap, I am almost ready to give up with the soft-mod, but am scared that I'll get the same DRE's if I install a chip.
