I read in a thread of this website:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/176791

that the Sharpies would run through and damage the data eventually?

Is this true of Sharpie permanent markers being used on DVD front surfaces, will they really bleed onto the data side and corrupt it over time?

I hope not!!

If so, what marker should I get?

Sheesh, and to think I had everything covered with backing up games...

I've never heard nor have had such problems using a Sharpie Permanent Marker. The only instance I know of the marker literally running through onto the data side of the disc, damaging the disc and data altogether is on cheap HP DVD or any of those 3rd-class DVD medias that have those unnecessary pictures and stuff.

So those pictures that make it thinner make it easier for the ink to bleed.

Hmm, true, if it were such a prevalent problem, more people would have known about it.

Unless it hasn't happened to people yet?

Can anyone confirm if this now-unknown phenomenon is true, please?

All I know is, the only problem I had a marker literally penetrate was those expletive eagle brand disc I use to use back in the past... Some people might know which one I'm exactly talking about. Other than that, Sharpie has always know to never cause a problem. Bad media quality and media degradation that comes with CMC MAGs are the prime suspect of loosing data rather than a mere Sharpie marker from my experience and knowledge now since I came to these forums.

Just get the non-toxic sharpies. Then you're set. It has happened in the past with cheap media that permanent markers can cause problems.
I've experienced it myself with PSOne games. Took 7 years before I noticed the problem but to be safe, get non-toxic permanent markers.
Good Luck!
